MAJOR: Quebec Among Top Cities On Gary Bettman's List For New NHL Team
The NHL has had huge success in recent years with NHL expansion. This has the league and fans wanting even more expansion in the near future. Now Gary Bettman has revealed who the top cities are in consideration for the next NHL team.
NHL Insider Confirms Expansion Is On The Mind Of The League
In a recent media appearance NHL insider Pierre LeBrun commented on NHL expansion. He sounded encouraged that the league is looking to expand in the near future.
«You certainly got that sense from listening to Gary Bettman and looking at the body language of the NHL commissioner Wednesday at the Board of Governors meeting in New York. It felt like he came so close to just saying it's going to happen, but he said, No, we aren't ready yet,'» LeBrun explained.
LeBrun then went on to talk about which cities are most in contention for the next NHL franchise.
Then he talked about the recurring interest in conversations that he's having with those four cities Atlanta, Houston, Salt Lake and Quebec City.
With these cities in mind, Quebec City is a prime contender for an NHL franchise in the near future through either expansion or relocation.
NHL Waiting On Arizona To Make Expansion Plans
After talking about the contending cities Pierre LeBrun sheds some insight on what might be holding up the expansion progress. The answer he was able to get was the Arizona Coyotes.
«As other governors told me Wednesday at the meeting, there's no question you have to figure out Arizona first in case you have to move them to one of those cities that we just talked about,» LeBrun added. «Especially whether that's Houston or Salt Lake City.»
The NHL sounds as though they are excited to have an NHL team in any or all of these locations. If they can facilitate more franchises coming by way of relocation that seems to be on the table.
