Maple Leafs insider David Pagnotta spoke recently about the current situation that the team is in with their goalies Ilya Samsonov and Matt Murray. Samsonov is set to be heading into his arbitration case soon and they are trying to get something done before that day hits. But additionally, it seems that Murray may be on his way out of Toronto.
Nick Alberga asked Pagnotta about what Murray's status with the Leafs is and if the two sides are leaning to a contract buyout and he had this to say:
With a buyout of Murray's deal, they would clear up $4 million in cap space, which would easily allow for them to sign another couple of roster guys to help deepen the roster even more. If Murray does indeed leave the Leafs, it would also open up a spot in the backup goalie slot for the taking for such talents as Joseph Woll to earn. As this situation develops, we will see what happens with Murray and the roster.
