Calder Cup winner sent to hospital during team celebration
Following their second consecutive Calder Cup win, a member of the Hershey Bears was rushed to the hospital during their championship celebration.
The Washington Capitals have had massive success with their AHL affiliate team the Hershey Bears, arguably greater than their own as of late. After another tough battle through the playoffs, the team took down the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the finals for the second year in a row, earning their 13th-ever Calder Cup.
"Bears go back to back. No surprise there if you've watched them since, say, November. 13 titles for Hershey. Congrats to them and all my pals there.
Now back to summer."
However, the team's celebration did not go as smoothly as they would have hoped. Amidst the victory party, one of the Hershey Bears players had to be hospitalized.
"The player experienced a medical issue during a team celebration, and out of an abundance of caution, the player was transported to Hershey Medical Center."
Though this could have been a scary situation for all players and witnesses, luck was on their side. The player was released the following day with no additional medical intervention required. The Hershey Bear was later able to rejoin the team's continued celebration.
"The player was evaluated and then released early [Wednesday] morning after officials determined no additional medical assistance was needed."
With the situation handled, the Hershey Bears returned to their celebration with all players on deck. Hopefully, this was just a one-time thing and all players remember to party safely to keep their chances at a third consecutive Calder Cup win alive.
