QMJHL first overall pick Maddox Dagenais gets traded after refusing to report
The Cape Brenton Eagles made a massive trade with the Quebec Remparts last night sending the first overall pick to Quebec so they could select Maddox Dagenais 1st.
Last night the QMJHL draft took place and we saw the Cape Brenton Eagles trade away the first overall pick to the Quebec Remparts in exchange for a package with four pieces.
Quebec : 1st round 2024 (#1)
Cape Breton : Louca Connolly (04-30-07), 1st round 2024 (#4), 2nd round 2025 (DRU), 1st round 2026
The Remparts then proceeded to select consensus first overall ranked prospect Maddox Dagenais with their newly acquired pick.
Maddox Dagenais is the first overall pick of the 2024 #QDraft! He joins the Quebec Remparts!
Dagenais scored 42 goals and 81 points in just 35 U16 AAA games. He is following in his fathers footsteps as they became the first father-son duo to be selected first overall in the QMJHL draft.
It is rumored that Dagenais would not report to the Eagles if he was selected by them which forced their hand into trading him, similar to the Eric Lindros saga in 1991 and 1992.
The forward will now look to become a key piece for Quebec and hopefully get drafted high in the 2026 NHL entry draft.
