French Olympic vaulter Anthony Ammirati misses medal for embarrassing reason
French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati is completely gutted after his private part struck a crossbar, costing him a chance at winning a medal at the Olympic Games.
The disastrous event occurred this past Saturday, as Anthony Ammirati was attempting to qualify for the medal rounds in a men's track and field event. The French pole vaulter ended up hitting the crossbar as he attempted to jump over it, with his crotch striking the pole, causing him to fall to the ground. He ended up finishing in 12th place, which crushed his dreams at a medal.
«It's a big disappointment. I'm a bit gutted,» he said, according to a translation of the French Athletic Federation page by Athlon Sports. «The conditions were good. It's the first time I've started a competition without any stress. As I was a total outsider, I only had one goal: to play with the crowd. I was almost there.»
Each jumper gets four attempts in order to qualify for the medal round. Ammirati made the first two jumps, with heights of 5.40 and 5.60 meters, however when it was time for the 5.70 meter jump, that's where everything went wrong for him, and his private parts had quite the smack.
Unfortunately for Ammirati, he was disqualified, as nine other men made that jump and moved on.
The most peculiar way to lose a pole vaulting Olympic competition.
Athlete Anthony Ammirati, #today.
The embarrassment didn't stop at the competition, as Social media users had a field day over the incident on X, sending Ammirati's video into a viral spiral.
«Anthony Ammirati failed the bar and the commentators are clearly having a hard time acknowledging what happened 😂 HELP I'M DYING,»
«What happened here?» an announcer said during the broadcast. «On the way down. Ahhhh.»
The French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati got disqualified for hitting the bar with his "baguette." You could say he got disqualified for using two poles.
"I was disqualified from the Olympics because my junk is too big" -Anthony Ammirati for the rest of his life, probably.
The jokes then began to increase all over X, really adding fuel to the fire.
«Loses vault. Wins internet».
«I'm sure there will be many wins from his viral loss.»
«He broke the world record with very wrong way.»
«Can't think of a better way to be acknowledged for defeat!😂».
These games were Ammirati's first ever Olympics, and what a tragic way for them to start and finish. Everyone is hoping that he will be able to rebound from this and hopefully have a better showing at the next Games in four years if he decides to compete again. Ammirati has been doing this since he was the age of 12, and he no doubt faced a lot of adversity growing up, so this is likely just another speed bump in his quest for a gold medal one day.
