Kevin Fiala suffered a serious leg injury that required surgery after getting tangled up with Team Canada's Tom Wilson, and a new updates gives some unfortunate news.
It was a scary moment during Team Canada vs. Team Switzerland as Kevin Fiala got crossed up with Tom Wilson and fell awkwardly into the boards, needing to be stretchered off and later requiring surgery that took him out for the rest of the season.
For Switzerland it was a huge blow to their chances at continuing on in the tournament meanwhile it's also a loss to the Los Angeles Kings as they lose one of their top scorers at the absolute worst time.
Kings announce Fiala timeline after scary injury vs. Team Canada
The team has officially released an announcement regarding the situation, and now we have a much clearer -- and gruesome idea of how the injury seemed to unfold:
Kevin Fiala underwent successful surgery to repair fractures in his lower left leg. He is resting comfortably and will begin the recovery and rehabilitation program.
Kevin will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 regular season and will be reevaluated at the conclusion of the regular season.

While we knew the injury was a lower body one, the fact that Fiala had multiple fractures in his leg is a scary update that sheds light on just how serious things were even if it didn't initially look like anything concerning.
Fiala injury will make things difficult for Los Angeles coming out of Olympics
Wilson did not receive a suspension or any punishment for his actions, and he will be able to continue playing for Canada, even after getting into a 'fight' during Canada's game vs. France.
The Kings will no doubt need to adjust their plans going forward especially if they are continuing to fight for a playoff spot. They just lost one of their best offensive players and need to replace him ASAP.
They could become much more desperate/aggressive on the market and it could lead to players like Robert Thomas or Bobby McMann being brought in to help replace Fiala's offense.
For now, all we can hope for is that the recovery and rehab that Fiala goes though is as smooth as can be, and there's a small chance that if things go well that he can heal up in time for the playoffs thanks to the post-season evaluation giving him a glimmer of hope of returning this year.
