After Jeremy Swayman let in a rather unsightly goal, it was due to the boards being a distraction which has led the IIHF to make a necessary change.

For Team USA, they had a pretty easy time of Denmark, however weren't perfect as goaltender Jeremy Swayman also let in one of the worst goals you'll see in a long time.
From 100 feet away, Denmark's Nicholas Jensen wired a shot from the red line that eluded Swayman and popped over his shoulder to give the Danes a goal. It was something that spread like wildfire on social media, and many were wondering if Swayman was cut out for the job.

IIHF makes critical change ahead of Olympic bracket

It's something that has caused a lot of controversy outside of Swayman's goal, and the IIHF is listening to the feedback with a massive change going forward.
The IIHF announced they will be adjusting the board colour to reflect a better sightline for players and goaltenders, although this is standard practice for IIHF games as they prefer to keep fresh board as opposed to ones with chips and nicks.
To be fair to Swayman, this is what he saw when he was faced with the shot from Jensen:
Also, Swayman did his best to not bring up the boards as an excuse and actually had a very unique explanation as to why they weren't an issue:
I'm colour-blind so it doesn't matter to me.

It was a flash screen. It was the perfect height. Right between the boards and stand and board level; I truly lost it.

No matter how they go in, you have to stop the next one.
To be fair to Santagiulia Arena, there was a lot of criticism heading into it due to the size, ice quality, and accessibility for fans and media however everything seems to have gone according to plan with no real issues beyond the boards.
There's a good chance that the board changes will make a difference for goaltenders going forward, and it's a situation that was never really accounted for it seems when discussing building the rink and extra foresight may have prevented this entirely.
But for now, the IIHF will make things a little brighter and a little easier for the rest of the Olympics. Better late than never.
