After the hosts of the Spittin Chiclets podcast were the ones to break the story in Columbus, they've now revealed another story from Babcock's time in Anaheim, his first coaching role in the NHL.
As the story goes, there was a player was taping his stick on the bench ahead of the Ducks final pre-season game, and instead of giving him encouragement or another show of positivity, he did the exact opposite.
Babcock then approached the unnamed player and said 'this is pretty great isn't it', and after the player agreed, Babcock responded with 'soak it in, it's the last time you'll ever be on an NHL bench'.
At the time, it was a terrible approach, but looking back on all of Babcock's issues since this point, it's safe to say this was just the start of a coaching career that would be marred by controversy.
Ultimately, the age of coaches treating players like this is thankfully over, as the new age player doesn't respond as well to this type of approach, which will likely spell the end of Babcock's coaching career at the top level.
