Houston has long been a destination eyed by the NHL and its fans as a potential home to an NHL franchise. Before the Kraken were put in Seattle, many fans advocated for the expansion franchise to be given to Houston, and that sentiment hasn't gone away in recent years. It appears as though Bettman and the NHL want to take a different approach.
As the NHL looks to find a home for the Coyotes, they've ruled out the city of Houston. According to a recent report, the NHL would like to save Houston for an expansion team, which they think would make them more money than simply moving the Coyotes. While fans are likely upset by this news, it does have its reasoning.
Other top cities such as Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Hartford, and Quebec City have all been thrown around as options for relocation. Star Quarterback for the Kansas City Cheifs, Patrick Mahomes, has expressed his desire for the Coyotes to move to Kansas City, and some have speculated that he may join their ownership group.
If not Kansas City, the Governor of Connecticut has expressed a desire to meet with Gary Bettman to talk about bringing hockey back to Hartford. Perhaps we could see the Coyotes rebranded into the now-defunct Hartford Whalers.
No matter the outcome, we hope the Coyotes get moved to a market where they can succeed.
