Reports are flooding in this afternoon that the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman have finally handled their contract dispute. According to Elliotte Friedman, the final touches are being put on a long-term extension.
Further reports have now confirmed that Jeremy Swayman will be signing an 8-year deal with the Bruins at just over 8 million dollars per season. He will backstop the Boston Bruins for the foreseeable future.
The extension for Jeremy Swayman comes as a bit of a shock. Events in recent weeks between the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman seemed to indicate a long holdout is coming.
This extension comes after months of back and forth between the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman. In recent weeks it seemed like a deal was incredibly far away. Bruins front office member Cam Neely spoke to the media and called out Jeremy Swayman and his agent which made a trade look more likely than an extension.
Regardless of the comments made things have now been worked out and Jeremy Swayman is once again a Boston Bruin. This is now a huge relief for the Boston Bruins and their fans. This summer has been incredibly stressful when it comes to the plan in net. First, the Bruins traded away Linus Ullmark. This then gave Jeremy Swayman more leverage to hold out for the exact contract he wanted.
Throughout most of the preseason, the Bruins were preparing for Joonas Korpisalo to be the opening night starter. Now they will have Vezina candidate Jeremy Swayman back in the net and leading them to another potential playoff apperance.
