Yesterday, the Buffalo Sabres made a trade with the Anaheim Ducks that sent Ilya Lyubshkin to the west coast.
While this seems like a small trade on the surface, it could have massive implications later on in the season. Lyubushkin carries a cap hit of $2.75 million which is quite expensive considering Lyubushkin's role in Buffalo.
After dumping Lyubushkin's contract to Anaheim, the Sabres now have over $8 million in cap space. This is certainly indicative of them potentially making another move and potentially landing a star.
Kane has also shown his sympathy for the city of Buffalo following the passing of legendary announcer Rick Jeanneret.
With Kane looking to sign his next contract after fully healing up, we could witness him finally sign with his hometown team. The Sabres will look to be playoff contenders but the addition of Kane would make them playoff locks.
