The Carolina Hurricanes were looking for relief for goaltender Frederik Anderson who has suffered a medical injury regarding blood clotting and is out for the foreseeable future. They kept veteran Jaroslav Halak on a professional tryout to see if he could offer some relief for the time being.

Now, the Hurricanes have released Halak from his PTO, according to Walt Ruff.

The release is unfortunate news for Halak, as it sends a strong signal that his NHL career could be coming to a close. Halak has played in 581 games throughout his NHL career.
