Last season, Jesper Fast was looking forward to another chance at the Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes. However, during the regular season finale against the Columbus Blue Jackets, he took a nasty crosscheck from defenseman Erik Gudbranson, taking him out of the game. Ultimately, he did not get to make an appearance in their run against either New York team before their second-round exit, as head coach Rod Brind'Amour predicted.
Unfortunately, the worst has been confirmed for the 32-year-old forward and his immediate future. Carolina Hurricanes general manager Erik Tulsky confirmed that after getting neck surgery for his season-ending injury on August 6th, the media was informed that he is not expected to play in the 2024-25 season
The veteran forward recorded 6 goals and 13 assists in 73 games, and has 248 total points in 703 career games. Already in his thirties, it could be difficult for him to get his footing back in the league for the 2025-26 season. Hopefully, his recovery over the upcoming year goes as smoothly as possible so he can lace up those skates once more.
