A player like him is usually named captain not long after joining the team, like we saw with Connor McDavid in Edmonton.
However, don't be surprised if the organization decides to wait a year or two, or picks someone else.
Another player would certainly like the job.
The veteran defenseman Seth Jones expressed his interest in becoming the team's captain.
Jones, 28, played two seasons in Chicago and scored 88 points in 150 games. It's safe to say that he's probably their most important player since Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane left.
If the Hawks plan on naming Bedard, they'll likely wait after his rookie season and therefore, won't have a captain this year.
If they don't want to wait, Jones might be the best option on the table.
