Connor Bedard makes remarks about going H2H with Sidney Crosby in opener
The number one pick Connor Bedard had an unexpected remark about playing a former number one pick Sidney Crosby in his first NHL game.
The Chicago Blackhawks surprised nobody when they took Connor Bedard first overall last night. Bedard is widely considered to be the best prospect since McDavid and McDavid was considered the best prospect since Crosby.
Now, Bedard will play Crosby in his first NHL game if all goes according to plan. Barring injury to either Bedard or Crosby, we will see them face off in Bedard's first NHL game.
When asked about this possibility, Bedard said something quite unexpected.
«I was trying not to look at the schedule. People were telling me, I didn't want to look too hard. Man, if I'm able to make the squad come October That's my idol ever since I can remember. That'd be unbelievable.»
It seems like Bedard is being modest but to play his idol in his first game sure is lucky. Most likely, the NHL knew this would happen and wanted to schedule Bedard for opening night vs his idol.
However, to imply he may not make the NHL next year is a little concerning. If he stays healthy, he should be one of the best Blackhawks players given how weak their roster is.
