This offseason Tomas Tatar had a big decision to make. He was going into unrestricted free agency and had total control of where he wanted to play. Now he opened up on his decision making process.
Tatar Turns Down A One-Year Deal
In a recent interview, Tomas Tatar was given the opportunity to speak about his offseason and free agency process. He revealed that in the beginning of the offseason, he turned down a one-year deal from the New Jersey Devils. He admits he thought he could get a longer-term deal.
During the recent interview, he revealed that he quickly found out this would not be possible for him.
A one year offer from NJ was on the table but I refused since I wanted more term. I only realized later in free agency that it's not possible (to get more than a 1 year deal) this year. Then, Jersey signed Toffoli and that was it.
Tatar Signs With A Contender Late In The Offseason
Tomas Tatar eventually did sign a contract with the Colorado Avalanche. However, he did have to settle for a one-year deal. He will have a great opportunity to contribute to a championship contender this season.
With the Devils last season, Tomas Tatar played 82 games and had 48 points. Tatar will likely finish around these numbers again in a similar capacity to the Avalanche. It will be fascinating to see if Tatar ends up regretting his choice.
