Mark Recchi is one of the legends of the NHL in the 2000s and 2010s. He was known for his consistency and longevity in the league. He is now returning to the league in a new but familiar role.
Mark Recchi Returns To The NHL In A New Role
An announcement from the Columbus Blue Jackets has confirmed that Mark Recchi is returning to the NHL. The team announced they have hired Recchi as an assistant head coach.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have added Mark Recchi to Head Coach Pascal Vincent's staff as an assistant coach.
The opening was created due to the firing of Mike Babcock after he got caught up in a scandal for mistreating players. This led to Pascal Vincent being promoted to head coach. From there the Blue Jackets needed an assistant coach. In comes Mark Recchi who has coached in the NHL before.
Recchi had two previous coaching stops with NHL franchises. First he was an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins from 2017 to 2020. Then he headed over to New Jersey with the Devils from 2020 to 2022. After a year away from the NHL he is back now with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Recchi will bring 1,652 games of NHL experience to the Columbus Blue Jackets staff under first-time head coach Pascal Vincent. He will once again be working with a young promising core similar to his time with the Devils. He will be tasked with developing the highly promising forwards that the Columbus Blue Jackets have drafted in recent years.
