MAJOR: Investigation Puts Mike Babcock's Coaching Position officially in Jeopardy
Many believed that the Columbus Blue Jackets made a mistake when they hired Mike Babcock. Unfortunately for the team, this group may have been proven right.
Babcock's Scandal
Following accusations of a breach of privacy of his players, where he would reportedly cast players' private photos and scroll through them, Mike Babcock was placed under investigation by the NHLPA.
While veterans such as Boone Jenner and Johnny Gaudreau came to Babcock's defense, it appears a wave of concern from younger players has made this investigation much more potent.
"It appears things changed... when information was received that some of the younger Blue Jackets were uncomfortable with what had occurred. That appears to be the major focus of the investigation."
- Elliotte Friedman
Job On the Line
Now, insider Darren Dreger has dropped a major update - Babcock's job may be on the line depending on the outcome of this investigation.
"Based on the information that has been discovered and percolated to the surface in the last 48 hours, I think there's a chance Babcock's job could be in question... I'm not reporting or predicting it's going to happen, but there's a chance that happens."
It's safe to say that this has been a disaster for the Blue Jackets. Whether he sticks around or not, he'll be a wildly contentious figure. The era of Mike Babcock in the NHL has been over' so many times; at what point will it truly be over for good?
