The Oilers are just 1-3-1 through their first five games in 2023-24, and with a tough schedule upcoming, the last thing they needed was a major injury.
McDavid missing time
Unfortunately, that's exactly what we now have confirmation of, as Connor McDavid will officially miss between one and two weeks of action following an upper body injury suffered late in the game against the Winnipeg Jets.
Through five games, McDavid hasn't been the highlight reel many have become accustomed too, but he still has eight points over that time, and now, the team will be tasked with turning it around without him.
This will also mean McDavid misses the Heritage Classic against the Calgary Flames, one of the NHL's premiere events, so this will be devastating to more than just the Oilers.
