McDavid Takes Shot at NHL Over Pride Night Ban
After a handful of players refused to wear Pride Jersyes during warmup this year, the NHL decided that it would end the celebratory night, and suggested that teams stop having Pride-themed jersey nights.
Connor McDavid recently made a strong statement about the NHL's decision to stop Pride Jersey nights. He recently shared his disappointment in the League's decision to stop Pride Celebrations.
"I know in Edmonton, we were one of the first teams to use the Pride Tape," McDavid said. "In our dressing room, we strongly feel that hockey is for everybody. That includes the Pride Nights."
McDavid is one of many players who are starting to speak out against the decision for the NHL.
Mitch Marner and John Tavares both wore pride tape on their sticks in Columbus on Friday during the Blue Jackets' Pride Night McDavid Doesn't Believe that the Celebration is a Distraction
McDavid also spoke about the justification that the NHL gave, that players' refusals were distracting from the celebration.
I don't think it had to have been a distraction, It could have been a non-issue while focusing on the good that was coming out of those nights.
If more NHL stars like McDavid continue to speak about the importance of Pride Nights, there is a possibility that the NHL could go back to hosting Pride Night celebrations, outweighing the small number of players who have refused.
