Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers had to leave last night's game with an injury, and the latest update on his condition is causing a lot of concern.

While the details remain somewhat sketchy, the latest update on the condition of Edmonton Oilers forward and NHL superstar Connor McDavid is causing some concern among fans and analysts. McDavid left last night's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets after getting tripped and having his left foot hit awkwardly into the boards.

While it seemed in the beginning that the injury would be a fairly innocent one, the latest update on the injury to Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers seems to dispute that. According to the Two Mutts Podcast on X, McDavid will be meeting with his support staff in Edmonton today to gain a better understanding of the injury and how long the recovery process might take. The meeting will include McDavid's trainer, as well as Edmonton's medical staff.

The trip came from Zach Werenski of the Columbus Blue Jackets, who was not penalized on the play. It wasn't necessarily a dirty play, as there was nothing that showed any malicious intent. This didn't sit well with Edmonton fans though, who felt Werenski targeted Connor McDavid and got away with a careless trip in another case of the NHL turning a blind eye.

The loss of McDavid for any period would be a massive loss to not only the hopes of Edmonton's Stanley Cup hopes but to their chances of even getting back to the Finals. McDavid is the catalyst that drives the Oilers engine and without him, the team starts to sputter. After McDavid left the game early on, Columbus pounced on a vulnerable Edmonton team, crushing them 6-1 on Monday. This season he already had 10 points in nine games and was looked poised to be on pace to have his fourth straight 120+ point season before the injury.

An injury to a star of McDavid's caliber isn't just bad for the Edmonton Oilers, but the NHL as a whole. Even without the injury to their star, the Edmonton Oilers would likely prefer to forget about last night's game against Columbus as quickly as possible.

Edmonton gets a chance to prove they can do things without their superstar, as the Oilers play the Nashville Predators on Thursday, before traveling to face the Calgary Flames in the Battle of Alberta on Sunday. Their next home game is against the New Jersey Devils on Nov. 4 where hopefully McDavid will be back on Edmonton's ice and giving Oilers fans a huge sigh of relief.

We will have more information on the status of Connor McDavid as we learn of any updates.
