Judd Moldaver, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid's agent broke his silence on his client's recovery after suffering an ankle injury last week.

The captain was hurt by Zach Werenski in a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and returned to Edmonton to be evaluated. It was a huge blow to the Oilers and they looked completely deflated without their captain, often the catalyst for their offense.

Earlier this week, the Oilers confirmed that McDavid would miss two to three weeks with a lower-body injury. Yesterday, TSN's Pierre LeBrun shared an update on McDavid's condition after he spoke with Judd Moldaver, the player's agent. He confirmed that the captain jumped on the ice and that the team would evaluate him day-to-day. He also stated that the main goal seems to be to see McDavid return as fast as possible.

In his own words:

"On Thursday morning, Connor McDavid did put on the skates just to test things out with that ankle injury. I had a chance to speak to his agent, Judd Moldaver from Wasserman. He basically said, Look, things are pretty encouraging here.' I mean, there was some real concern, obviously, but you know, at this point they're going to have to take things day-by-day, make sure he has no setbacks.

This is a player that's come back ahead of schedule before and [I] won't offer any predictions at this point - but certainly all signs are pointing to him getting up and running here again as soon as possible."

From what it sounds like, McDavid could return sooner than what the planned recovery let us believe.

There's no doubt that McDavid wants to come back as soon as possible and that the team needs him desperately. However, rushing players to come back to the lineup can be dangerous, and if McDavid were to come back too soon, he could aggravate his condition and miss even more time, completely derailing the Oilers' season.

Also, with the Oilers' convincing 5-1 win over the Nashville Predators, they already showed that they're able to perform well without their captain. Among others, Leon Draisaitl took his game to the next level with two goals and one assist, and in a great team effort, 10 more players added their names to the scoresheet.

The Oilers have the luxury to wait until he gets back to 100%, and they should take the most of that opportunity because if they are too impatient with the league's greatest player, it will cost them now and in the future.
