Earlier today on the opening day of training camp, it was revealed that the Edmonton Oilers had lined up an intriguing addition, and now, it has been announced that Mike Hoffman, veteran forward has inked a PTO deal with the team as he looks to make his sixth team in the NHL.
The 34-year old last played with the San Jose Sharks in 2023/24, tallying 10 goals and 23 points in 66 games played, and while he's not quite the same player that scored 70 points for Florida back in 2018, he can still be a good veteran help to this Edmonton team.
There were some suggestions that after 700 games in the NHL, Mike Hoffman had played his last game at the top level, but this goes to show he continues to have interest around the league. It won't be an easy roster to crack however, as the Oilers have plenty of incredible talent leading the way, but with the expectation still that Evander Kane will head to LTIR, there's a potential spot opened up for him.
In 2024/25, the Oilers have nothing but a Stanley Cup on their mind, and if Hoffman can help them get there, he'll have the chance to win a spot on their roster, but after a down year in 2023/24, only time will tell if he can still be a positive at the NHL level.
