Marc-Andre Fleury Gets the Last Laugh in His Fight With Gary Bettman
Marc-Andre Fleury got the last laugh in his battle against Gary Bettman as he defied his orders and decided to wear his custom helmet for Native American Heritage Night.
Fleury Gets Last Laugh As Bettman Backs Down and Helmet Raises $35,000
Gary Bettman and the NHL are doing everything in their power to go against players who hope to show their support for causes they hold near to them. In this case, Marc-Andre Fleury was able to stand up to the league after they told him he couldn't wear a custom helmet he had made for Native American Heritage Night.
The NHL later backed down, and Fleury had the last laugh as the helmet raised over $35,000 for charity.
«Very generous,» Fleury said. «It's for a good cause, which is the main reason why I wanted to wear the mask. You can wear the mask for 15 minutes and raise a good bunch of money to help people. «To me, I just thought it was the right thing to do. I'm not someone that likes to go against rules. My mom was surprised that I wore it, but it just made no sense to me."

Fleury Sees No Difference in Paint Jobs He Wears All Season Long
Fleury went on to note that he has had 4 different paint jobs on his helmet this year and that if he had started with this design no one would have batted an eye, showing the hypocrisy of the League.
"Like, I've had four paint jobs on my masks this season, so I could have worn this mask all season and nobody would say a thing. It's just such a small thing to do. but it meant so much to the people we're raising money for and the person, Cole (Redhorse Taylor), who designed it.»
Clearly, this is an issue that the NHL and NHLPA need to work out amongst themselves, as it is not going away anytime soon.
