The Montreal Canadiens acquired Casey DeSmith in the blockbuster Erik Karlsson deal, but now, it appears GM Kent Hughes is intent on moving him out in order to land some more assets.
A solid veteran
At 32-years of age, it appears the best days for DeSmith are behind him, but with a proven track record, he could be a very solid backup goaltender anywhere in the NHL right now.
In 134 NHL games over his career, DeSmith has put together a 58-44-15 record with a .912 save percentage and a 2.91 GAA, and now, there's reportedly plenty of interest in his services.
Four teams
According to Marc Dumont, a former member of the Canadiens organization, four General Managers are interested in DeSmith, with those teams being the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, St. Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks.
With Montreal still looking to get pieces for the future so their rebuild can continue, all four make fantastic sense for different reasons, and if they can flip DeSmith, whom they acquired at a fantastic price, it will be another big win for GM Kent Hughes.
