The Canadiens won game 6 to force a seventh and decisive game in their first-round playoff series against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.
The jubilation spilled out onto the streets following the game at Bell Centre for the first time in almost a year, but it also resulted in some violence.
According to reports, a teenage girl was shot in the foot shortly after midnight and all indications are that she was a bystander victim of an altercation between two individuals nearby where a 19-year-old male was stabbed in the upper body. Both were transported to hospital and police report both are in stable condition.
At this time, we have no arrests. We will try to find out if the incident is related to the festivities, to the people who were gathered in Old Montreal," said Montreal Police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant. "We have met with several witnesses and we are trying to understand the circumstances surrounding this event.
Police set up a perimeter in a couple of different spots in the city as the celebration started to go late into the night. It came just one day after the COVID curfew was lifted in Montreal. Police report that things were relatively quiet, except for the incidents listed above.
