The former head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs Sheldon Keefe revealed how he got hired by the New Jersey Devils in a press conference.

Only a few weeks after being fired by the Leafs, Sheldon Keefe found another job in the NHL: he was hired as the New Jersey Devils head coach.

The Devils held a press conference on Tuesday with the new coach alongside the organization's president of hockey operations and general manager Tom Fitzgerald to officially introduce Keefe.

They both said interesting things to the media about the hiring process, what convinced Keefe to take the job, and how it happened for him after he was let go by the Leafs.

Here are the highlights:

"Keefe says he didn't get much sleep the day he was let go as coach of the #Leafs. "I had a pretty good sense that day I was getting called in for a meeting."

"Keefe said he shot his farewell video right after being let go by the Leafs and that the Devils reached out while he was at lunch with his wife that same day."

Fitzgerald on the process with Keefe after a few calls: "I let him know if he wanted the job, it was his."

Sheldon Keefe, upon formally being introduced as #NJDevils head coach, says he found quick closure after being fired by the #leafs.

"This is a fresh start and a great opportunity ahead. It's completely unique and different."

"Keefe shouts out the @NJDevils analytics team as something that drew him to Jersey."

More to come.
