Sean Avery retired from the NHL back in 2012, after making an impressive career out of being an instigator.

It appears his knack for stirring the pot hasn't gone anywhere in retirement.

Avery's Absurd Claims

On Leafs Morning Take, Avery claimed that it would take him just 8 weeks to be ready to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and that he would even be more effective than recent signing Ryan Reaves.

"I could make the Leafs. I'm probably in the best shape of my life... I would give that dressing room a run for their money. Could I get my timing in 5 weeks to be ready for training camp? No, but if they knew that I was on the team and it was like 'ok, he needs 8 weeks', then I would be ready and I would be much more effective than Ryan Reaves."

Over his Head?

Avery cites being in the best shape of his life as justification that he could crack the Leafs' roster, crediting his training in Jiu Jitsu and remaining physically active in his retirement.

Avery is known for not shying away from sharing his thoughts, as out there they may be.

While he may be in the best shape of his life, it's quite obvious that the NHL has changed even since his retirement in 2012. The game is much faster, and players are now bigger and stronger than ever before.

While it's no doubt that Avery likely truly believes he could compete, at 43 years old, he will have to keep that competition in the old-timers leagues.
