Gary Bettman and the NHL just punished a Canadian team and stripped them of a first round pick.
Senators to Lose First Round Pick
The Ottawa Senators are now forced by the league to give up one of their first round picks for the next three NHL Entry Drafts. The punishment is from the Evgeni Dadonov trade ordeal.
The Senators traded Dadonov to the Vegas Golden Knights in the summer of 2021, at the time Dadonov had a modified no trade clause. He had submitted his list to the Senators ahead of the 2021-22 NHL season.
The Vegas Golden Knights were not given this list when they acquired him and proceeded to try and trade him to the Anaheim Ducks in March of 2022.
The NHL vetoed the trade because the Ducks were one Dadonov's no trade list and the NHL has now punished the Ottawa Senators for not providing the list to the Golden Knights.
