Pittsburgh Penguins Reveal Major Arena Upgrade
The Pittsburgh Penguins arena is now 13 years old. After being opened in 2010 the arena is in need of some of its first major upgrades.
New Scoreboard On The Way?
A new video posted to X Pittsburgh showed off the offseason transformation of PPG Paints Arena. The main part of the video shows the scoreboard that hangs above center ice being taken down and deconstructed. Then a new scoreboard is built and shows a Pittsburgh Penguins logo displayed on it at the end.
The new scoreboard is 50' x 33' which is nearly twice the size of the original one. It also contains a new sound system and LED lights.
Will The Penguins Start A Trend?
With the Penguins changing up their scoreboard it will be interesting to see if other arenas built around the same time as Pittsburgh start to make changes.
The Buffalo Sabres recently announced that they will be upgrading several parts of their stadium in the upcoming years. Other arenas like the Winnipeg Jets and New Jersey Devils are likely in need of upgrades as they have been around about as long as the Penguins' current arena has.
