Three Must Watch Penguins Prospects in the World Juniors

Every year, hockey fans patiently wait for the world juniors to come around so they have an opportunity to get a good look at their teams prospects as well as the draft eligible players in the coming year.

Penguins Players in This Year's WJC To Watch

In the past few years, the Penguins haven't had many prospects playing in the World Junior Championship, but this year they have 3.

Brayden Yager, F, CAN

Yager was selected 14th overall in 2023. This would make him the highest drafted player in the Penguins organization in years, and rightfully so. The 18 year old possesses a lethal shot, and he sees the ice very well in the offensive zone. Penguins management and staff will be watching Yager closely as the tournament progresses.

Emil Pieniniemi, D, FIN

While not known for his offensive prowess, this Finnish blueliner is a strong skater and has a very solid build. Pieniniemi plays a responsible defensive game and plays in the top Finnish league as an 18 year old which says a lot about his game.

Kalle Kangas, D, FIN

Kalle Kangas was selected in the 7th round of the 2023 NHL entry draft. The Finnish blue liner has a large frame and effectively uses his size in his game. While not particularly offensively gifted, Kangas can occasionally jump on the rush and contribute that way.

Penguins fans should keep an eye on each of these players, as they could make an impact on the big squad a few years down the road.

For fans and management alike, sometimes it's difficult to watch prospects of their team especially when they play overseas. The World
Juniors allows these young guys to show their talent on the big stage. It can also have a huge impact on a draft eligible players draft stock.
