Kyle Dubas signs another former Maple Leaf Filip Kral in Pittsburgh
After leaving the Pittsburgh Penguins last year, Kyle Dubas has inked several former Leafs to the Penguins, and now he's added another.
It's no secret that since leaving Toronto, former GM Kyle Dubas has continued interest in some of his former players, and now 24-year old Filip Kral has been added to the list.
The Penguins have signed defenseman Filip Kral to a one-year contract.
The contract runs through the 2024.25 season and carries an average annual value of $775,000 at the NHL level.
The defenseman was a 5th-round pick of the Maple Leafs back in 2018, but ended up just playing two games with the team, going scoreless over that time back in 2022-23. After heading to Europe and tallying 37 points in 46 games played, Kral is now headed back to the NHL, with the Penguins inking him to a one-year deal worth $775k.
While he never became a consistent player for the Maple Leafs, Kral did produce well for the Marlies, adding a career high 21 points back in 2021-22, but he never managed to find that production again. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 198 pounds, Kral has the size to make it in the NHL, and after flashing the skill in Europe, he now has the chance to make an official NHL roster in 2024-25.
