Penguins Sidney Crosby Trade Rumor: Major development emerges
According to insider Rob Rossi of the Athletic, it is time to put the Sidney Crosby trade rumours to rest.
In his most recent report, he had this to say:
Crosby's 37th birthday was never a target date for a new deal that he and the team remain confident will be signed, multiple Penguins and league sources said. The sources were granted anonymity so they could speak freely about the process. Crosby has told close friends he intends to re-sign with the Penguins and that he, agent Pat Brisson, and Penguins hockey president/general manager Kyle Dubas are largely aligned about details of a new contract; however, his priority this offseason has been on training for the upcoming season.
Just from this quote alone, it seems that both sides are aligned on signing a contract extension; it is just a matter of time until both sides agree to the deal.
It should also be noted that Crosby was the number one reason why the Penguins signed Evgeni Malkin and Kristopher Letang to contract extensions. He wanted the band back to finish their careers together. It was reported that Crosby wants those three to have one more chance at winning the Cup.
When Crosby does agree to a new contract with the Penguins, the question would then be: can GM Kyle Dubas put a team around him that is good enough to win again?
Robbi also mentioned that Crosby has made it pretty clear that his priority is training for the season ahead. He is confident that the extension will cross the finish line and isn't worried about it.
Crosby wants to finish his NHL career with the Penguins, even though the likelihood of him winning another Cup is slim.
Crosby is coming off a contract that paid him $8.7 million over 12 years. However, now that the salary cap is rising annually, it may finally be the time that Crosby doesn't take a team-friendly contract.
It is only a matter of time until the contract extension is completed; until then, Crosby's focus is on the 2024-25 NHL season.
