A possibly major trade in the NHL today has almost certainly fallen through due to a player involved not wanting to use his no-trade clause.

The Trade

This trade was an inter-conference swap involving the St. Louis Blues and the Philadelphia Flyers. The original agreed on deal was to send all star Kevin Hayes and Travis Sanheim to the Blues. But coincidentally, it was a player on the Blues that was supposed to be getting sent to Philadelphia that said no to this trade happening.

The Power To Say No

Krug has been with the Blues now for four seasons since signing a massive deal after his former Boston Bruins lost in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Blues in 2019. Krug still has four more seasons left on his contract with the team at a cap hit of $6.5 million. This is definitely a curveball thrown for the loop for both teams and until Krug can be convinced or they can find other trade items to get the deal done, this trade is as good as non-existent.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the mystery player was Torey Krug who elected not to waive his no-trade clause to let the trade go through.

The possible end result of giving out no-trade clauses has definitely shown in this case with Krug and the Blues. We will see how this situation develops.
