Now that the Nikita Zadorov trade has gone through reporters are confirming why Vancouver stood out above other offers. According to reports the Maple Leafs were in on Zadorov but were not willing to trade for him without salary retention from the Flames.

The Flames were able to move around assets to address their need for a physical presence on defense. The Maple Leafs were unwilling to make these types of moves necessary to get them the advantage.
