When the Leafs brought Calle Jarnkrok in, they anticipated him being a solid complimentary middle-six player who could move up to the top six if need be. However, he has been out of the Leafs lineup for a bit and has not been practicing and fans have been worried as to why.
Today, we got an update on what has been wrong with Jarnkrok.
Neck injuries are nothing to mess around with but it is encouraging to see that Jarnkrok is trying to return before the season begins.
It seems like the Leafs' top six is pretty loaded up with the core four, Tyler Bertuzzi, and either Max Domi or Matthew Knies. However, Sheldon Keefe has been trying William Nylander as the third-line center and currently has Sam Lafferty on the 2nd line with John Tavares.
Assuming the Leafs have a fully healthy lineup, it would not be surprising to see Jarnkrok slot in on the 2nd line with Lafferty moving down to the third line.
Currently, Nick Robertson holds that spot alongside Nylander and Domi but if Jarnkrok can return to full health, he could bump Robertson out of the top 9.
However, it is always good to have some competition, and knowing Sheldon Keefe, he will be juggling the lines up quite often.
