Expert Predicts Auston Matthews' Next Contact
Matthews' Extension.
The Maple Leafs and Auston Matthews haven't reached a deal yet. There's nothing to worry about as we're not even in August yet, and Matthews still has a year left on his contract.
However, the management and the fans want to see this get done quickly.
An analyst at Hockey News has shared a video where he tries to predict what his extension will look like using the Franchise Mode in NHL 23.
Simulating Matthews' Extension
In the simulation, Matthews accepted a four-year deal valued at $13M AAV.
"We were able to extend Matthews' contract with a four-year deal at $13M per season. Obviously, in real life NHL, with the salary cap going up at the end of next season, maybe he's going to be asking for more. Time will tell what happens."
Of course, it doesn't mean he'd accept this deal in real life, but it still represents something. NHL 23's simulation is made to be as close to reality as possible.
We already knew that Matthews was going to get something around $13M, but rumors said he wanted a bit more.
This could bring back hope for the fans who wish to see Matthews accept a lower salary for the sake of the team.
