Gary Bettman Sabotages the Maple Leafs
In a game with massive implications for the Eastern Conference Wild Card race, Gary Bettman has blocked the Maple Leafs from a big boost.
League Refuses Goalie Callup
The Maple Leafs will be rolling with an emergency backup goaltender for the second straight game tonight.
This is no longer because of the salary cap, it's now because the NHL has blocked an NHL callup.
However, this game is much more important than the last. Against the Montreal Canadiens, nothing major was at stake, but tonight against the Florida Panthers, there are seasons on the line.
If the Panthers beat the Leafs in regulation, they will clinch a playoff spot - and in turn will end the season of either the Pittsburgh Penguins or New York Islanders.
Thus, if the Maple Leafs are forced to roll with emergency goaltender Nick Chenard , the implications may be major.
Knowing that Ilya Samsonov had an injury scare last game, there is reason to be worried.
Whether the Leafs put themselves into this position willingly or not, it is no reason to put the seasons of three teams at stake.
Unfortunately, Gary Bettman just had to get involved in this!
