In a surprising twist, the Toronto Maple Leafs decided to call back up Ilya Samsonov from the AHL, less than two weeks after sending him to the Marlies. They've also sent 22-year-old Dennis Hildeby.
With Joseph Woll slowly getting back on the ice and Martin Jones' performances, many believed he would be staying a lot longer in the AHL.
Samsonov didn't even take part in a game with the Marlies during that time.
The Russian goaltender held a press conference today, and he shared how he reacted to being sent down to the AHL by the Maple Leafs after a rough start of the season.
Professional athletes have a lot of pride in their performances and are renowned for pushing through tough situations. It's great to see that Samsonov is seeing it that way. If he wants to prove to management that he deserves a spot in the team's goaltending unit, he'll need to work hard and perform well while maintaining a great attitude.
