NHL insider Frank Seravalli just laid out exactly what the Leafs' trade plans are given their injuries and weak points in the roster.
Seravalli Reveals The Defenseman That the Leafs Should Trade For
The Leafs are in dire need of defensive help, and that need has only been exacerbated after Mark Giordano went down with an injury last night. With Liljegren out, Gio down, and Klingberg on LTIR, the Leafs will have to make some sort of move to sure up their back end.
Frank Seravalli just revealed the 7 defenseman that the Leafs should be looking at to make a trade, some of which are well known to be targets, and others more out of left field.
2. Andrew Peeke, Columbus Blue Jackets
3. Alexandre Carrier, Nashville Predators
4. Nikita Zadorov, Calgary Flames
5. Will Borgen, Seattle Kraken
6. Mario Ferraro, San Jose Sharks
7.Travis Sanheim, Philadelphia Flyers
Some of these defensemen are well-known targets of the Leafs, like Tanev and Zadorov of the Calgary Flames. Others, Like Sanheim, would be harder to acquire given their current contract and no-trade clauses, but are still worth the look.
Leafs Will Be In a Bidding War For Defenseman As They Are a Hot Commodity
The Leafs aren't the only team looking for a defenseman, as things start to shake out in the standings and other teams look to bolster their defence before making a playoff run. Due to this, the Leafs will have to consider what level of risk they are willing to take to acquire a defenseman.
Given their current situation, they may not have much of a choice other than to make a big splash and bring a big name in.
