In last night's Leafs-Capitals game, Jake McCabe came close to receiving a major head injury in this play.

McCabe Has Near Miss with Kuznetsov Slap Shot

During one of the Capitals' power plays in last night's Leafs-Captials game, Jake McCabe got scarily close to receiving a scary head injury after stepping in front of an Evgeny Kuznetsov one-timer.

McCabe got hit by that Kuznetsov shot

McCabe took the puck off the helmet and even went down to the ice for a moment. You can see Kuznetsov waive toward the ref as he thinks McCabe took the puck square in the face, however, he was able to skate off the ice himself and stay in the game. Luckily for McCabe, the puck hit him in the helmet and bounced away.

The announcers on the play said that the one-timer was 98 miles per hour, and McCabe took it straight to the helmet.

McCabe Stepping Up to Big Minutes with Leafs

The Leafs are lucky that McCabe didn't go down with an injury, as they are already scrambling for defenders who can play top minutes. McCabe plays crucial minutes on the penalty kill, and while Timothy Liljegren continues to develop, the Leafs will rely on McCabe for big-time minutes.

While McCabe has started a bit slower than hoped for, he still is a crucial stay-at-home defenseman that the Leafs lack.
