The Leafs will under Kyle Dubas' control they were trading prospect and picks away in order to make a push for the cup, but after years of failure have very little prospects to look at. However bad news has come from one of their prospects.
Leafs In Trouble With One Of Their Prospects
The Maple Leafs have done well with the prospects that they do have remaining. Headlined by Matthew Knies and Nick Robertson the Leafs have some names that have the potential to become house hold names.
However there is one Russian prospect that may force the Leafs to lose him. This prospect being Nikita Grebenkin, a 2022 5th round pick has been playing in the KHL this season.
There are rumors that the KHL team that he plays for is negotiating a contract that sees him signed until the end of 2024 which would make it really hard for the Leafs to use him.
The Development of Grebyonkin For The Leafs
Grebenkin/Grebyonkin is a tall forward, with strong finishing ability and great vision on the ice.
So far this season Grebenkin has nine goals and 17 points in 40 games and is projected to hit 15 goals and 28 points. That stat line is rarely seen by young talent in the KHL as the league is near the strength of the NHL.
If his development continues, he will easily become a sleeper pick from the draft and at 20 years of age, he has time to become a solid player for the Leafs lineup.
