Maple Leafs Goaltender Opens Up About Arbitration Hearing & Injury Status
During the first day of training camp, Ilya Samsonov opened up about his experience with arbitration this offseason and his current injury status.
Samsonov Says No Bad Blood Between Him and Treliving After Arbitration
Ilya Samsonov was subject to an arbitration this offseason to determine his new contract. As a result, Samsonov was awarded a one-year $3.55-million contract after he went in with a $4.9 million ask against Toronto's submission of $2.6 million.
Samsonov spoke about the process and how he understands it's all a part of the business of the NHL.
Samsonov on the arbitration process: "We prepared for this with my agent and it's just a business. I'm so excited to be here. I was talking with Brad after arbitration. This was a really nice discussion. It's in the past right now." #Leafs
Samsonov Opens Up About Injury Status and Offseason Workouts
Samsonov also gave some details about how his offseason went, including a brief statement on how he feels after battling a shoulder injury for a period last season.
He was also busy this offseason with his newborn and is happy to have his parents in Canada to see his baby for the first time.
Samsonov agrees there was no bad blood post-arbitration with Treliving. Says he's in great shape, took up yoga, shoulder exercises. Parents have come over to see his new baby for the first time. Going to wear a Cujo-style mask design, endorsed by Joseph.

Says he arrived back in Toronto a month ago and that both his parents are with him right now.
