The Toronto Maple Leafs are in hot pursuit of a potential defenseman, and it appears they were interested in this Flyers d-man.

Leafs Reportedly Looking at Ristolainen From the Flyers

The Leafs are well known to be looking around the league for a potential blue-liner, as they have been riddled with injuries to start the season. While much of the attention has been focussed on the Leafs getting Chris Tanev from the Calgary Flames, new reports have surfaced that they also are looking at Rasmus Ristolainen from the Philidelphia Flyers.

Update: The Leafs looked at Philadelphia's Rasmus Ristolainen, but the Flyers, content with their team's performance, aren't keen on letting him go.

However, it appears the Flyers aren't willing to play ball with the Leafs, as they are already in a pretty good position this season.

Elliotte Friedman reported in his 32 Thoughts column this morning that Toronto has shown interest in Rasmus Ristolainen.

«I don't believe the #Flyers are eager to give him away, and there's no rush for them to do anything while their group is playing well.»

Ristolainen has a $5.1M cap hit through 2027.

Leafs in Desperation Mode for a Defenseman as Klingberg is Out for Season

The Leafs are now in desperation mode to acquire a defenseman, as John Klingberg has been ruled out for the season and will undergo hip surgery. With other injuries plaguing their blueline, the Leafs will need a reliable defender that can play big minutes down the stretch.

Feel bad for Klingberg and wish him a speedy recovery post season!

Go get Tanev.

The Leafs will need to get aggressive if they want to acquire a good defenseman, as they are a hot commodity this year.
