Some Toronto Maple Leafs alumni are on the waiver wire today as teams finalize their rosters for the upcoming NHL season.
Defenseman Mac Hollowell was placed on Waivers by the New York Rangers. Hollowell, 25, played 6 Games for the Leafs last season, as well as 13 Points, all assists, in 18 games for their AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies. Hollowell was drafted 118th Overall by Toronto in the 2018 NHL Draft.
Former Leafs Defenseman Scott Sabourin was placed on waivers by the San Jose Sharks. Sabourin, 31, played a game in the 2020-21 Season for the Leafs, as well as 6 games for the Marlies, with 2 Goals.
Sabourin may be more remembered by Leafs fans for a viral moment in 2019 where Sabourin, then a member of the Ottawa Senators preseason squad, got into an altercation on the ice with Auston Matthews, with Matthews looking behind Sabourin's back, which was interpreted as Matthews not knowing who Sabourin was. The then-27-year-old made Ottawa's roster after spending his career in the AHL, playing 35 games for Ottawa before signing for Toronto the season after.
Also placed on waivers was Dominic Toninato by the Winnipeg Jets. Toninato, 29, never played for Toronto, but was a 5th Round Pick of the team in 2012, signing with Colorado after Toronto relinquished his draft rights in 2017. Toninato has spent the past 3 seasons in Winnipeg's system, having an assist in 5 Games last season, along with 19 Goals and 35 Points in 50 AHL games. Toninato played 77 Games with Winnipeg in 2021-22.
