At the time, many people thought it wasn't a good deal for the Leafs, but Jarnkrok proved them wrong.
It turned out to be a great deal as he had a career season, scoring 39 points, including 20 goals in 72 games. He basically took on Alex Kerfoot's role in Toronto for less money.
Based on all of that, one could presume his spot in Toronto is safe, but apparently, it's not.
Brad Treliving's relationship with Jarnkrok didn't have a great start.
Back in 2022, the former Flames GM traded for Jarnkrok, and it didn't work out well. He performed poorly, scoring only four points (four assists) in 17 games in Calgary.
The Leafs' new GM has the difficult task of dealing with the tight salary cap, and if other moves are in the works, Jarnkrok could be the one to pay.
If the season were to start today, the Leafs would have a 20-man roster and would respect the salary cap. However, they would risk losing Matthew Knies to waivers. This isn't something the Leafs want to do.
If Jarnkrok is out of the roster, the Leafs could start the next season with 12 forwards and 7 defensemen, possibly including Knies, Robertson, and Holmberg, which is much more comfortable than the alternative possibility.
