There have been many assumptions as to what the Toronto Maple Leafs line-up will look like once the season begins. Largely due to Toronto's tight cap constraints, and more recently the play of a few young players on the roster.

Matthew Knies, Fraser Minten, and Easton Cowan have all stood out at training camp and exhibition play. Then there is Nick Robertson who has not stood out as much, thanks two years of injuries, but he also deserves a chance as well.

Projected Roster

The site Editor and Leaf projects the Toronto Maple Leafs roster as:

Knies- [Matthews] [Marner]

Bertuzzi Tavares Nylander

Domi Minten Robertson

Lafferty Kampf Jarnkrok

Rielly Brodie

McCabe Liljegren

Kokkenen Klingberg

This line-up emphasizes skill and quickness. Now on the other hand, it sure is not the type that is going to win a lot of tight-scoring defensive games.

Preseason so far

In the preseason, to date, Toronto has a record of 4-1-2, which is good for second in the Atlantic. Of course, preseason records do not mean anything once the season starts, but the Maple Leafs should be a top team again in the NHL.

Toronto's top scorers so far are:
- Connor Timmins has six points in six games, but is now lost to injury for a few weeks at least.
- Matthew Knies has five points in six games and should feature in the top six
- John Tavares, Easton Cowan, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, and Alex Steeves, all have three points in three games
