Matthews Extension In The Works

Auston Matthews' contract expires after this upcoming season. Rumors have been swirling about where negotiations are at and if Matthews wants to extend. Reports now indicate that not only does Matthews want to stick around but that an extension is close to done.

Carlo Colaiacovo recently went on the 1stUp show on TSN 1050 Radio where he talked about the Matthews extension talks.

"My understanding is that an Auston Matthews deal is going to happen any day right now. Nobody knows the exact date, but the expectation is that it's happening. It's going to be anywhere between 3-5 years and it's going to range between $13M and $14M, depending on the term. It's going to happen any day - that's the only thing I know that's going on in Leaf land." - Colaiacovo on Matthews extension talks

With the Matthews extension done, Leafs fans will be able to breathe a sigh of relief. This will also allow the organization to proceed with an accurate look at what their cap structure will look like with Matthews in the fold.
