RUMOUR: William Nylander Considering Paycut to Stay in Toronto?
The Maple Leafs thought they got some bad news earlier this morning when Sebastian Aho signed in Carolina.
New reports indicate, however, that the Leafs have nothing to worry about.
Considering a Pay Cut After All?
Sebastian Aho's eight-year, $78-million deal that he signed this morning essentially set the benchmark for William Nylander. Nylander has outperformed Aho offensively, and brings similar value to his team.
This means that a market value deal for Nylander could be approaching $10-million annually, which would be very difficult for the Maple Leafs to afford. New reports, however, indicate that Nylander's deal will be at a lower number than Aho's.
Reports are indicating that Sebastian Aho's contract (8x9.75M) will be the very maximum for William Nylander.
While Nylander has out-performed Aho offensively, it appears he will settle at a number lower than Aho.
Bargain for Nylander
This is great news for Leafs management, who could keep Nylander long-term at a reasonable number after all.
