Report: Surprise team makes desperate move to acquire William Nylander
The Toronto Maple Leafs, while going quite under the radar, have been looking to trade star William Nylander all summer long, and now, it appears the sweepstakes are heating up.
Four teams involved
According to Eklund of Hockey Buzz, the four teams chasing Nylander the hardest this whole time have been identified as the Minnesota Wild, New Jersey Devils, Colorado Avalanche and New York Islanders.
Now however, as the eve of the 2023-24 season approaches, another team has entered the race, and with a major need on the wing and plenty of cap space, they could be the team to pry the 27-year old away from Toronto.
An up and coming squad
Eklund has identified that team as the Chicago Blackhawks, and with so much cap space and a glaring need for long-term help alongside Connor Bedard, this could be a match made in heaven.
Ultimately, nothing of note has been revealed by any party on a trade at this juncture, but with this need matching both teams as the season approaches, it could be a trade to keep an eye on going forward.
